XXXIII Olympics — the first games in which the participating athletes are equally female and male + large number of openly LGBTI

2 min readJul 26, 2024

The Olympic Games begin, which may be called games, but are actually a visual lesson in how we should compete in life — with respect for the other party, following the rules.

Although I do not follow any sports, which means that I will not be among the spectators of the Olympics, I cannot but express my satisfaction with two facts about the XXXIII Summer Games:

  • These are the first games in which the participating athletes are equally female and male! A true celebration of equality and proof that ladies are not the „weaker sex”.
  • A large number of openly LGBTI athletes will represent their countries, inspiring many „ordinary” and „closet“ people to come out and shine before the world in their unique identity!

On the first point, comparing Bulgaria, I think things are clear — we were ahead of the other countries in terms of women, who show everyone what they can do and, above all, leaving speechless the complex gentlemen in front of the keyboards spitting on the ladies, even at the last Olympics, when only women they brought medals to our country!

On the second point, unfortunately, we still don’t have any athletes discovered for us, as non-acceptance reigns massively.

In this connection, I will allow myself to quote an opinion shared in the Bulgarian mamma forum:

Apparently society considers being gay, even the possibility of being gay, as a great stain on his reputation and excludes the possibility of sympathy for him. That is why the smarter ones will continue to hide. Society has not matured to accept this as normal.

But progress, sooner or later, comes!

Enjoy watching the Olympics and with each one that follows, may diversity and tolerance become more and more the norm!!! This will mean that for every four year cycle, we get wiser!!!
